Co-op Hail continues as one of Saskatchewan's Top 100 Businesses

Co-op Hail continues to be one of the Top 100 Companies in Saskatchewan.  Moving from 81st in 2008 to 75th in 2009.  Thanks to a continued commitment from its members Co-op Hail remains true to its roots as a strong Co-operative organization.

 

Bruce Lutz returns as President

Bruce Lutz (Melville SK) received a vote of confidence from his board peers by returning as President for a 14th term.  Bruce has a long history with the company, having joined the Board of Directors in 1973.  His association with Co-op Hail started prior to that as he was employed as Chief Accountant from 1967-68.  After his short career with Co-op Bruce returned to the farm.  In 1973 he rejoined as a member of the Board.  Elected for the first time as President in 1995, Bruce has led the Company through many changes in the hail industry.  Farming has always been a way of life for Bruce who brings a solid agricultural and business approach to the Board.  Bruce is married to Darlene with two children and a flourishing family of grandchildren.  Bruce continues to be involved in the family farm with his son.

Gordon Young (Alameda SK.) joins Board of Directors

Co-operative Hail and the Board of Directors would like to welcome Gordon Young as its newest Saskatchewan Member.  Gordon comes to us from Alameda SK.  Having been a member of Co-op Hail since 1983 Gordon is familiar with the goals and objectives of the organization.  Gordon brings to the board table a strong agricultural and business background.    We look forward to Gordon's positive and hard working attitude continuing to create a positive influence in our business decisions.

John R. (Jack) McGowan (Portage la Prairie MB) joins Board of Directors

Co-operative Hail and the Board of Directors would like to welcome Jack McGowan as its newest Manitoba Member.  Jack comes to us from Portage la Prairie MB..  Jack has been a member wit h Co-op since 2000.  He has a strong agricultural and community background.  We look forward to Jack's strong work ethic and sound business decisions at the board table .

 

 

Alan Railton joins Executive Committee

Alan Railton (Sintulata SK) has been a member of the Board since 1995.  Alan's solid business approach has made him an asset to the Board for the last 13 years.  Alan received a vote of confidence from his peers asking him to become an integral part of the Board representing them on the Executive Committee.  Alan is happily married to Shelly with 3 children.  Alan has farmed for 40 years, and continues to farm the family farm, most recently his eldest son coming on board.   The Railton family has a long history with the Co-op Board.  Alan's father Wes was a director from 1953-86 and President from 1975-86.

Waind MacDonald retires from board after 32 years of service

Since 1977 Waind MacDonald from Portage la Prairie MB. has resided on the Co-operative Hail Board of Directors.  The second longest current sitting board member, MacDonald has served on various committees and has been an integral part of the successes and the building of the company.

 

MacDonald has seen many changes in the industry and the company in his 32 years.  Co-op Hail has grown from $100 million dollars in risk to close to $1 Billion dollars.  Co-operative Hail and its Board of Directors would like to thank Waind for his years of service and wish him all the best in his retirement.

In Memoriam

Wes Railton (1912 - 2009)

Wes was born on the family farm in 1912.  He spent his life on the farm and involved serving the community of Sintaluta.  An ardent curler, Wes also had a passion for horses and harness racing.  He was an inductee into the Indian Head Sports Hall of Fame.  Wes served as a director of Co-op Hail  for 34 years.  Wes served as an Executive member from 1954 - 1973.  Vice President from 1973-1975 and President from 1975-1986.

 

 

Tom Mooney (1930 - 2009)

Tom was born in Cartwright Manitoba in 1930.  Tom lead an active life playing hockey, baseball earning an induction into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame for baseball.  Tom loved to hunt, fish and golf and was a member of the Shrine.  Tom served as the Chief Adjuster for Co-op Hail form 1984 - 1996 and had spent 30 years in the Crop Hail Industry.  Tom had many friends through his work and was well respected throughout the industry for his contributions.
